Firebelly Tea

The birth of a company is sometimes fired in the realms of another. After co-founding an incredibly successful company (Davids Tea) in 2008, David Segal and Harley Finkelstein now operate this incredible company. The bags are compostable, the tea is amazing, and the packaging is lucid and elegant. Read the interview while sipping a cuppa and filling your cart.

Company Focus:

  • High-quality loose-leaf teas in beautiful, compostable packaging, and modern, bespoke tea accessories full of smart features.
  • We never use any flavourings in our tea blends – artificial, “natural”, or otherwise that are common with most tea brands and contain unlisted additives.

Most popular company tea(s)?

Does the company name have a meaning?

  • Tea puts that fire in your belly to help you energize or relax and rejuvenate to realize the potential of every day.

Do you participate in any charities?

  • We often donate products to a variety of charities either for silent auctions or gift bags.

What is your and/or your co-workers’ favourite tea?

  • Oh boy, that’s like asking me to choose my favourite child….. I love After Dinner Mint.  It tastes like an after eight chocolate.  Makes Good Sencha is a phenomenal blend of sencha and gyokuro.  Good Root is really good too.  And Some Nice Berries is outstanding – it’s rare to have an amazing berry tea without flavourings.  Our matcha is also spectacular – I drink it daily.  Crowd Pleaser has real Madagascar Vanilla.  I could keep going!

What are your thoughts on transparency in the tea industry?

  • This is something we continue to work with our suppliers on to get better including developing formal audits.  All of our tea blends are certified USDA Organic.  For each ingredient, we list the country it is grown in.

What role does tea play in our lives?

  • I absolutely love tea and I collect it like some people collect wine.  I think tea (and herbal infusions) are remarkable in terms of the variety of flavours you can create, the health benefits, and the ability to fit into our lives in so many different ways.

TeaTiff Picks: Wise Sherpa. When it comes to tea India, China, and Japan are the first countries most people think of but Nepal has tea that definitely rivals these three. Each country has their own specialities. The blacks and the white teas, in my opinion, are where Nepal truly shines. When I try this I will put my review here but I can tell you I am already salivating just looking at the picture.
